About Me

I understand that time is short and people are busy, so I aim to provide an efficient service whilst crafting a succinct, emotive message to inspire your perfect customers to take action.

Who am I?

I’m Gillian, and I live with my partner and three children in Somerset, UK. Over the years, I’ve gained varied experience, from opening a Toyshop, to home educating, to more recently, working as a freelance hairdresser and beautician. Still, all I’ve ever wanted to do is write! Whenever I can sneak five minutes, you’ll find me with my nose in a book, and I’ve been passionate about the written word for as long as I can remember. So, when I discovered copywriting as a career, I was beyond excited and didn’t hesitate to jump in and learn the skills I needed to make my dream of writing for a living a reality!

Home educating my children, who have varying additional needs, has taught me many things. I’ve had to develop skills to stay calm in high-stress situations and communicate more effectively, particularly with someone struggling to express their needs. I’ve had to think outside the box to find strategies that work for neurodiverse brains, and I became an expert researcher! My studies in psychology give me a deeper insight into the human psyche and help me develop further skills in researching from legitimate sources and conveying an idea clearly and concisely.

What I can do for you…

These skills, coupled with experience running businesses, mean I can look at things from different perspectives, empathise with buyers and sellers, and communicate a message effectively without patronising the reader or resorting to gimmicks. My dislike for long-winded explanations and pushy sales pitches means I love to do things differently, crafting succinct, intelligent copy to get the right message in front of the right people, allowing your business to stand out for the right reasons.

I won’t be everybody’s cup of tea, and that’s ok, but if you’re curious, schedule a free discovery call with me on the button below and let’s see if I could be a good match for your company ethos!

The methodology in action

  • 1. Discover

I like to start with a nice informal coffee and chat so we can get a feel for each other and discuss your needs. This can be via a phone call, Zoom or in person. I’ll be looking to understand you and your business and how I could help. Every business is unique, and my service reflects this, so after our call, I will put together a proposal that is perfectly suited to your needs so you never pay for more than you need.

  • 2. Clarify

If you decide to go ahead, I’ll need a creative brief to guide my work. You may already have one prepared, but if not, I have a simple questionnaire to define one. Once I have this information, we will have a call to discuss the brief and gather any other relevant information I require to write your killer copy. I’ll try to get all the required information at the start to avoid disruptions to you before the review. We’ll get our next check-in date in the diary.

  • 3. Create

This is where I work my magic. Taking everything I’ve learned from our discussions about what makes you and your company unique, I’ll now start to craft emotive and compelling copy that aligns with your brand voice, resonates perfectly with your audience and moves you toward your goals. I’ll work closely with other collaborators, such as web developers, to ensure everything fits together perfectly.

  • 4. Review

Once a first draft is ready, we’ll have a call so you can check you’re happy. Decision-makers must be present at this meeting so I can get all the relevant feedback and prevent the project from stalling. It’s essential to be honest here. I care about getting it right and view feedback as a powerful tool for improvement, not a personal criticism. Your comments and requests will be noted down and sent via email to remind everyone what was said.

  • 5. Revise

Using the comments from the review, I’ll now make the amendments and create a revised piece ready for our next follow-up call. To keep things moving along swiftly and smoothly, I like to book our next call at the end of every meeting. Steps 4 & 5 may now repeat. Two reviews are usually ample and covered in your quote. Should you require additional revisions due to changing your mind about things, please note that this may incur extra costs.

  • 6. Deliver

Once you are happy, the finished project will be delivered in your required format, and ready to implement or uploaded for you if this is part of your quote. I then offer free proofing of any live digital copy as mistakes are easily made and your copy reflects on you and me, so a quick check to make sure it looks right and has been copied and pasted accurately is all part of the service so you can feel confident that it is perfect.
